Learning to skate
Hands up!! for those who had painful falls on yr buttocks when u slipped and fell off your legs, while skating....
I am so fed-up with the fear of landing on my bums that I stayed away from skating, a really nice & relaxing sport...therefore....I had since then, made up my mind to learn from the Pro... :)
Had my 1st lesson last Sun at East Coast Park. It was really terrifying once I put on the skates, the phobia of falling creeped up to me, even with all the possible protection available (wrist guards, knee guards, elbow guards) except for The Butt hahaha...we already have natural cushion ;)
Learning from the professional somehow seemed to be more assuring than trying to balance and skate on my own. Best of all, we learnt how to fall properly, on all fours :D hahaha....we learnt the few basic positions like V stand(at ease position), Roll stand (ready to roll!) and how to combine both into a skating motion. I realised that I had it easier than the rest as I had ice-skated before, that's what my instructor told me.
True enough, I was overtaking most of the others at the class with my little attempt to mimick skating with the 2 basics. Glad to say that I never fell, not even once, maybe that's just the beginning, who knows?
I am looking forward to the 2nd lesson this week whereby we will be taught how to stop and skate smoothly instead of intermittently. It's pretty scary that we can't stop at speed.
Wish me luck that I dun fall too many times ;)
